Off-Script

Off-Script is a monthly conversation for graduate students and scholars interested in the critical comparative study of scriptures. Think of it as a get-together for our subfield to connect, converse, and collaborate. From professional development to workshopping ideas, Off-Script is your chance to network (in the best possible and least scary way) with scholars who get it and what you do.

My name is Richard Newton. I’m Associate Professor and Undergraduate Director of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama. I’m also the convener of new program that I think you’ll dig.

I’m really excited for our first session. I’m kicking things off with a program I’m calling “Critical Comparative Scriptures: Introducing You and Your Subfield.” We’ll also talk about what programs you would like to have happen. Join us on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 12-1pm Central on Zoom.

I want to give special thanks to the Institute for Signifying Scriptures, the Society for Comparative Research on Iconic and Performative Texts, and the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama for co-sponsoring what, I think, will be a fantastic event!
