ISS Annual Meeting (2018) – Program

Welcome to the Third Annual Meeting of the Institute for Signifying Scriptures. We are pleased to have you join us in helping us set up, model and participate in honest, high-level, challenging conversation about things that matter. The Meeting is organized as a seminar around a compelling theme. All attendees are invited and expected to participate.

Seminar Theme: INTERPRETERS

We are complexly situated—across and within different domains and contexts–in globalized postmodernity, yet within the boundaries of the modern nation state. Through what politics and by what psycho-socio-logics and with what consequences are we in such situations today informed, managed, manipulated, oriented? Who are the authorized/appointed interpreters in/of this situation?

We shall make use of Zygmunt Bauman’s Legislators and Interpreters as common facilitating reader.

Collaborative Research Project: SCRIPTURALIZING HERE AND THERE

This year we inaugurate our ongoing signature collaborative research project. It is designed to facilitate running commentary on and analysis of fraught human-making—across cultures and time—in terms of scriptural politics, formations, practices and play, dynamics, phenomena. Conceptualized as project in the politics of language, it holds the promise of facilitating needed transgressive and transformative thinking and practices for our times. All attendees are expected to participate in the launch. All members will be able to contribute on an ongoing basis to the project
